The memorable experiences of Cigarettes After Sex Live in Concert.
What's up guys! Welcome back to my second blog. From last week, you might know a little bit about the ambient pop band called "Cigarettes After Sex". I wrote about how I found this band, why I love them, how they started to form a group, what kind of songs they play and also showed you one of the famous songs of them called "Affection" which was so beautiful and chilled out. (Have you listened to yet?)
As I told you last week, there are many good songs left that you are gonna in love with. So, today I am going to continue with other famous songs consisting of "K.", "Keep On Loving You" and "Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby".
First, I will begin with a slow-as-molasses alt-rock ballad simply called "K." This song was recorded in December 2015 in New York but released on 14th of November in 2016.
K., as meaning Kristen, was once a no strings attached friend of the man. The song tells the very moment their relationship shifts from strictly casual to something more substantial, as this verse of the song "We had made love earlier that day with no strings attached but I could tell that something had changed how you looked at me then." Later on, they became lovers. But after their separation, the song implies that he missed her and want her to come back.
Next, I will go on with "Keep On Loving You" This is a cover version for Reo Speedwagon original song. It is a super steady slow motion type of dream pop song. The lyrics and the way they are sung in this song are so haunting and really poetic as well.
This song is about a man who can't get over some girl who screwed him too many time but he still and will continue to love and be with her. This is the last verse of the song. "And I'm gonna keep on loving you cause it's the only thing I wanna do. I don't wanna sleep. I just wanna keep on loving you." It implies that no matter how much worse things this girl give to him, there is nothing in the world he would rather do more than that to love her forever and ever.
"Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby", the most popular song of Cigarettes After Sex. It was recorded in a four-story stairway at Greg Gonzalez's alma mater, at the University of Texas at El Paso. He calls the process “an accident, kind of an experiment.” He thinks about this song as a ‘grown-up’ lullaby because of the simple tones and simple lyrics.
This song was a fruit of improvisation that was written in a few hours before the recording session. It talks about two lovers and one’s deep protection about the other. They had sweet times together and this song is kind of a promise from the man to safeguard the woman from whatever happens or will happen.
By the way, as I said last week, I am not gonna talk about only the song but also my experience of the first "Cigarettes After Sex Live in Concert" show in Bangkok, Thailand. It was my very first time that I decided paying money to go to see the concert. So, I would like to show you some detail about it.
On May 19, 2017, I went to the hall before the show began 1 hour. There were too many people waiting outside to get the tickets. Most of them wore very cool and unique clothes which were not the same as others. I saw some of the celebrities coming to see this concert also.
Greg Gonzalez, the singer, and other 3 members came up with the black clothes. They began the show with the song called "K." which I just showed you. It was so wonderful to watch our favorite band performing live in front of us. They played their singles which were released previously and the songs of their new album such as Starry Eyes, I'm a Firefighter, Sunsetz, Dreaming of you and so on.
Everything there was absolutely perfect even though the show was only 1 hour. I got so much feeling in such a short space of time. There was a sort of dreamy feel to all their songs which are so chilling both in the relaxed and haunting sense. These guys are so perfect to listen to when you want to contemplate your entire future and how you might not pass that one thing that you need to pass to do all the other things you want to do. Moreover, If you need some trendy background music to set the dream pop chilled vibe This is it!!
