'My Life As Ali Thomas' release new album 'Paper'
Hello, everyone. It's me again. Last week I had mentioned about "My Life As Ali Thomas", the Thai folk-rock band which has their own very unique style that hardly finds in Thai indie music scene. I already talked about how they come together to make music, how the different musical backgrounds of them combining together perfectly. Pie, the singer, has more of an American folk sound, Rack, the guitarist, grew up listening to Brit-Rock from the 90s, Oak, the bassist, leans more towards industrial and experimental, while Taw, the drummer, studied Jazz but puts more of a Rock twist to things. All of their sounds grew diversely but combined perfectly.
As I told you last week, I will show you more detail about this band. So, today I am going to show you about their songs that I am quite sure you guys are gonna in love with.
I will begin with the latest song of them called "Kiss". It was released on 18 August this year. Go check it out!!!
The melody is so catchy. This song was written about the taste of touch which is different from other songs on the album. They put the electronic sound in the song perfectly which makes it different and also gives the song a new sense. It is one of the songs that we listen repeatedly for no reason.
After dropping the first single "Daughter and Son" which turned out very well (I showed you last week), they released the second one called "Winter's Love".
Pie, the singer, wrote this song by the stories of people around her, which are love, hope, regret or waiting. The meaning of the song depends on the interpretation of each person. For me, this song is like the deep blue stories in winter. The sound is so haunting beautiful. I cannot really interpret the lyrics actually but I got the feeling in this song heavily. It's like there is something in this song that pinches my heart.
Let's continued to the next powerful song which is "Cordelia" releasing on 5 August 2016. The song was written from the sense that we’re always in search of that someone or something that’s close to our hearts yet was never quite in our possession, almost like a ghostly illusion, something you can feel but not hold onto.
"Cordelia" is the kind of singalong song you could well imagine playing from car stereos on road trips all over the world. The lyrics have an impressively cryptic quality about who exactly is this Cordelia who's disappeared without a trace, as this verse of the song
Cordelia
Cordelia
Oh I'm still holding on
Why have you gone
Gone without trace
Oh I'm still holding on
The song's catchy guitar riff and pounding drums are equally central to its success even if the breakdown near the end of the song strikes as slightly over dramatic.
If you like those songs that I have just shown you, you should also check out other songs from the new album. These are the list of the songs.
5. Felt
6. Paper
7. Forget You
On the whole, the new album, Paper, is the album that can become so international. Every song has its own charismatic unique style which is quite different from one another. It's definitely a mood swing album. The tracks mix together elements of folk and heavier sounds, all held together by Pie's vocals, which are strong, slightly husky and sweet. The combination of vocal, guitar, bass and drum of this band make a collection of 10 delicate folk rock songs diverse perfectly. So, This album is one of the most colorful, beautiful and wonderful albums I've ever heard of.
It is really an amazing band that makes the Thai indie music scene so diverse. share it with the world!!
